With Five teams heading into last weekends elimination games hopes where high for the Pirates.
Friday Started with the U15 Boys taking on Stanley River. Our Pirates boys started strong getting points up early and leading the for most of the game.
With 10 minutes left being up 20-8 hopes were high for a Grand Final appearance but Stanley River came roaring back to steal the win in the last minute of the game winning 22-20. It was a heart-breaking loss but our boys played their hearts out and left nothing on the field.
Game 2 on Friday night saw our U15 Girls taking on Gympie. Out of the three losses our girls had during the season 2 were to the Devils. Unfortunately, the season had taken a toll on our ranks and we could only field 15 players for the game to Gympie’s full complement of 19. Missing our key play maker the girls fought well but went down 56-6.
Both our U15’s teams had great seasons and we can’t wait to see them running out next year.
Heading into Saturday our U13 girls kicked off the day early against Caloundra Gold. Although Caloundra scored in the first minute of the game and it was tied 10-10 half way through the first half our girls snapped out of there malaise and went on to win convincing 48-10 to move through to the Grand final this Saturday. They will meet Coolum Colts to decide the 2025 Champions.
Next up were our U17 Boys. After the remarkable comeback last week, we were hoping for a less stressful game with a good out come this week. Well unfortunately they want to give us a heart attack again. Trailing they whole game in a very tight battle the boys did it again to win in the last minutes of the game 14-10 over a very tough Maroochydore team. So they to will be in the Grand Final taking on Caloundra.
Last we had the Open women in the local derby taking on the Coolum side. This was an exciting game with our women leading most of the way. The colts never gave up and being 6 points down in the 67th minute managed to score a try to be 2 points down. In windy conditions from the sideline the Coolum kicker put the ball straight through the goal post to sent it into overtime. Unfortunately, this great battle was decided by a penalty goal awarded 3 minutes into overtime giving the Colts a 18-16 win knocking out or last senior team from the final’s series.
So, with our U17 boys and U13 girls left into the GF lets hope they bring a couple of trophy’s home this weekend. Go the Pirates
