It was Week one of the Finals for both our Seniors and Juniors Pirates this week.
The Seniors had both A grade and Reserve Grade men in Elimination finals at Pirate Park this Saturday.
With both teams started strong and getting out to the lead in both games neither team could unfortunately hold on for the win.
The A Grade men went down to Kawana by a converted try 24-18 and in the Reserve Grade men’s game vs Stanley River, both teams ended up scoring 4 tries each but it was the two missed conversions that lead to a 22-18 loss.
This leaves only our women’s Open team as the Senior team to make a run for a Grand Final win. They will open their finals account this weekend at Coolum on Saturday at 2:30 pm in a local derby against Coolum.
It was better news for our international Juniors. Starting out on Friday night at Pirate park the U15’s boys took on a strong Gympie side who would have had the majority of possession throughout the match. They boys defence though was up to the task and they ran out comfortable winners at the end of the game 34-12.
Then the U15 Girls took the field. The Pirate girls started out strong and were in control of the game in the early minutes but an intercept pass down near the Caboolture try line led to a 6-0 lead for the away team. The girls deep though, shook off that play and fought back to eventually take out the win 24-12.
Next up on Saturday were the U14 Boys taking on Caboolture. Although getting the win in the regular season unfortunately the boys couldn’t get the win in the Elimination final. They boys fought hard but went down 38-18.
The final international junior Pirate game was the U17 Boys . Taking on the Kawana team the boys got themselves into a deep hole being down 22-8 at half time. In a comeback for the ages though the boys came out firing and battled to an amazing heart stopping win 26-22 to continue on the next weekend.
This weekend the international juniors kick off on Friday night with the U15 Boys taking on Stanley River at 6:00 pm down at Bribie Island followed by the U15 Girls taking on Gympie at 7:10 pm. Saturday will see our U13 Girl minor premiers opening their finals account after the first-round bye taking on Caloundra at Beachmere at 11:00 am, then the U17 boys take on Maroochydore at Coolum at 11:45 am.
