Announcement: Open Women’s team Captain

Written by Noosa Pirates on 10 Jan 2023

Name: Kat Anderson (2023 captain)
Position: Half Back

Leading the Bendigo Community Bank Sunshine Coast Open Women’s team as they return to the training paddock for Season 2023 is foundation player Kat Anderson.  Kat has been entrusted with the captaincy for the coming season, with Emily Garrett her vice-captain. Successful across multiple sports codes, Kat brings equal amounts of skill, determination, discipline, communication and experience.

“One thing I know is that the Pirates club and the result of each game mean a heck of a lot to Kat,” coach Robert Burgin said.

As someone who is nearing the end of her footy career, and as a mother of two, she realises the importance every time she gets to step onto the field in the blue and gold. Kat has an analytical mind, studies the opposition and, as a half, she has the authority to guide the team around the paddock. The team is undergoing a generational change, and pairing two passionate players together such as Kat and Emily guarantees the same values will permeate through the squad.
On the field, they are arguably our most lethal combo. It’s a pleasure to be able to work with both to further develop that important mix of camaraderie and ambition that makes successful footy teams. Coach Robert Burgin
